Third Church Cadets
The Cadet Ministry is for boys in grades 3 through
8. The boys meet on alternating Mondays from September through May at
7:00pm in the church basement. The Cadet
program provides the boys with a wide variety of activities; such as
outdoor adventures, hands-on projects, badge-work, and Bible lessons.
Our
leaders
are Christian men who will walk side by side with the boys in a
mentoring role, to assist them in
developing into strong members of the body of Christ.
Our theme for the 2007-2008 Cadet year is
‘Now…Pass it on!’; this is based on the scripture verse of Psalm 145:4
which states, “One generation will commend your works to another: they
will tell of your mighty acts.” The goal of cadetting has always been
to help boys grow more Christ-like in all areas of life. This year we
wish to do this through all our activities, and to remember that part of
being a true servant of Christ is to pass on His teachings from
generation to generation; in this way more will know of the
unconditional love of our Savior, Jesus Christ!
We are in the process of planning the year’s
activities, and are looking forward to many wonderful experiences with
the cadets. The following are some of the items on the agenda; Annual
Cadet Spaghetti Feed this fall, the Snow Derby at Mt Baker this winter,
our annual Cadet Sunday & Cadet Skating Party in January, and of course
the annual Sumas Camporee this summer (July 17-20, 2008). We also are
beginning to set up our Cadet Workshop on the grounds of the church
property; this is exciting as it will give our cadets so much more
opportunity to do more ‘hands-on’ activities such as woodworking and
metal crafting.
If you know a boy who would benefit from our
program/ministry, or want to come and visit to see what Cadets is all
about, please call our head counselor Stuart Hoogerhyde at #354-2340 (or
e-mail at ‘shoogerhyde6@verizon.net). Our meetings are from 7:00-9:00pm
on alternate Monday nights (opposite nights as GEMS).
In His Service,
Stuart Hoogerhyde, Head Counselor
